Port Sulphur Public Scoping: Mid-Barataria Diversion

This scoping meeting will be held in Port Sulphur on July 27 from 5 - 8 pm.  Hosted by Restore the Mississippi River Delta, following is their information on the event:

As the State of Louisiana and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) move forward with the permitting process for the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion – one of the most important restoration projects in the Coastal Master Plan – your voice and support are needed. The Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion would reconnect the river with nearby wetlands and deliver sediment to build and maintain tens of thousands of acres in this crucial area over time.

To get this project constructed, the Corps must first hold scoping meetings, a series of public meetings where stakeholders provide feedback to the Corps on the project and what they would like to see addressed in the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

You can read more about the EIS process in this blog: http:// mississippiriverdelta.org/ getting-basics-environmenta l-impact-statement-process -mid-barataria-sediment-di version/

It is essential that stakeholders attend these meetings, provide input and ask that the Corps to carefully consider what the future of our coast and our communities looks like without this diversion, because that is a future in which we inevitably lose the fight against land loss.

Meetings will consist of a 30-minute introductory open house, followed by 30-minutes of NEPA and project related presentations. After the presentations, the open house format will re-open for two hours.

5:00 pm: Open House, opportunity for the public to ask questions and submit scoping comments
5:30 pm: Presentation on the NEPA process and CPRAs proposed Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion project
6:00 pm: Open House re-opens, opportunity for the public to ask questions and submit scoping comments
8:00 pm: Adjourn
